Michael Jackson is Vice-President and General Manager of Global Basketball for NIKE. He leads the company’s marketing strategy at retail outlets across the world.
Prior to his current role, Jackson spent six years leading NIKE’s basketball efforts in the company’s two largest markets — North America and China – and oversaw category growth every year. In North American, Jackson transformed the landscape of the sport. House of Hoops was +31% year over year and +16% in comp door growth during second stint in North America. In China, Jackson helped grow market share with numerous successful tours of NIKE’s most famous athletes, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant, throughout China and helped develop outdoor basketball parks in Southwest & East China.
Also while at NIKE, Jackson served as General Manager of US Basketball and Associate Director of NIKE’s US Sports Marketing where he worked with the gold-medal winning USA basketball team and played a pivotal role in the launch of the “Hyperdunk” shoe. He was named the 2007 Bill Bowerman Man of the Year for his exemplary work and accomplishments.
Before joining NIKE, Jackson acquired vast experience in the worlds of sports and entertainment working in key leadership roles for YankeeNets Media where he helped develop the multi-regional sports network, now known as Yankees Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network. He also worked with Turner Broadcasting and assembled its award-winning broadcast team – Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson. Jackson also worked with the US Olympic Committee for several years managing in areas of sponsorships, international relations and government affairs.
