Matt Fleury has led the Connecticut Science Center since its opening to the public in 2009, after serving as Executive Vice President and COO during the Center’s development since 2003. As President & CEO, Mr. Fleury has advanced an ambitious educational agenda in service to children, families, schools and educators; built and led an exceptionally high performing organization; driven major fundraising campaigns and effectively engaged individual, business and government leaders.
A leading regional science learning destination for families and schools, the Connecticut Science Center serves visitors from throughout Connecticut and from every state in the nation, engaging its audience in thought-provoking interactive learning experiences to ignite a new generation of achievers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Connecticut Science Center serves an average of approximately 300,000 people annually with science learning activities and enables teachers to increase student achievement through professional development and student experiences, while helping to re-energize Connecticut’s capital city as a public vanguard for science and innovation in the state.
As a leading new destination in the science center field, the Connecticut Science Center is a Governing Member of the international Association of Science Technology Centers and Mr. Fleury is an active participant in industry affairs as a member of ASTC’s board of directors. He is also a member of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education, where he chairs the Finance Committee for the board overseeing Connecticut’s 17 state colleges and universities.
Mr. Fleury joined the Connecticut Science Center after helping to launch the institution in his prior capacity with an economic development office of the State of Connecticut. Previously, he served in management positions in communications and government affairs in the telecommunications industry after a successful career as a journalist. Over his 30-year career he has been recognized for achievements in business, government and nonprofit organizations in the areas of leadership, management, branding and communications.
Mr. Fleury earned his EMBA from the University of Connecticut School of Business and an undergraduate degree in business and communications at Charter Oak State College. Continuing his professional development through executive education opportunities, he also has studied organizational leadership at the Yale School of Management, and nonprofit performance and governance at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
