John R. Ciulla

John Ciulla is president of Webster Bank and Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS). He joined Webster in 2004 as senior vice president for middle market banking and served in a variety of management positions with increasing responsibility, including chief credit risk officer from 2008 to 2010. As executive vice president and head of middle market banking from 2011 to 2013, he was responsible for several business units prior to his January 2014 promotion to lead Commercial Banking and his October 2015 promotion to President.
Prior to joining Webster, John was managing director of The Bank of New York from 1997 to 2004. He practiced law in New York as an associate with McDermott Will & Emery from 1996 to 1997 and with Hughes Hubbard & Reed from 1994 to 1996.
John serves as vice chairman of the board of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association and serves on the board of the Business Council of Fairfield County. John earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Williams College, an MBA from the Columbia Business School, and a law degree from Fordham University School of Law.
