George Aylward is president, chief executive officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Virtus Investment Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTS), a multi-strategy asset management company that offers a broad range of investment capabilities for individual and institutional clients through the Virtus Mutual Funds, closed-end funds, managed accounts for individuals and institutions, variable insurance funds and exchange traded funds. He is responsible for leading the overall strategic direction and growth of the firm, which became an independent public company following its spin-off from its former parent in 2009.

Mr. Aylward has more than 20 years of experience in the asset management industry, beginning in the financial services group of PriceWaterhouse LLP prior to joining the corporate finance team at Virtus’ predecessor in 1996. He was chief of staff to the CEO of Virtus’ former parent from 2002 to 2004 and was chief operating officer of Virtus from 2004 to 2006. He was named president of the company in November 2006 and successfully directed the transition of Virtus to an independent company following its spin-off from its former parent.

Mr. Aylward earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts. He earned the Certified Public Accountant designation and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In 2012, he was recognized as the Top Leader for a mid-sized firm (150-500 employees) through the Top Workplaces program in Connecticut. He serves on the Board of Directors of The University of Connecticut Foundation and is a member of its Audit and Investment committees.
